We often get a few names when someone asks about or highlights Colorado music. The truth is, there is a plethora of Colorado music to support, but there a few names who have been doing it for a long time, that are brutally underappreciated. These artists, not only impact Colorado culture, but have been putting out quality music for years and continue to release music. Many of these artists still perform, have new music and marquee features that are worth a look.
Albeez 4 Sheez – Albeez 4 Sheez, not Albeezy for Sheezy, the A-Co representative deserves proper recognition. Although some may know him for the “Fuck Bobby Brown” track, Albeez continues to release quality music. “Got Me Waiting” features Conway the Machine, who is often in Denver, he also has features with the likes of Keith Murray, Rick Ross, Westside Boogie and many more. Albeez is ball of energy on stage and on the mic, who delivers with precise lyrical ability.
Atak – Atak has been putting albums out since the 90’s, but hasn’t lost the ability to put together quality records. The Westside representative, has built solid bridges from Atlanta to Florida, and might have the longest resume of collaborations with industry artist. He has songs with the late rappers Shawty Lo and Trouble, along with artists like Peewee Longway and Rocko. Atak also has a long list of local collabs, of whose who in Denver rap history. His production credits feature some big hitters like DJ Plugg, Bobby Kritical, Lexi Banks, Don Cannon and more.
Terrell Matheny – Terrell Matheny is an Aurora, Co native and somewhat of a renaissance man. Originally a dancer, TM moved into an R&B space and when the fans in Colorado weren’t engaging as he wanted, he pivoted: to acting. He has now appeared in movies with the likes of Eric Roberts, Vivica A. Fox, Noel Gugliemi and more. He has now appeared in over 13 movies, 1 series and more on the way. As a music artist TM has many styles, one song he might sound like Chris Brown and the next is rapping double time with a cypher of rappers. He also creates alot of content for his channels including himself Krump dancing, basically anywhere. Terrell is a true entertainer at heart. His latest feature is on a Reggaeton song with the Dominican artist Gianky “Sex.”
Kayla Rae – Kayla Rae is one of Denver’s best singers. Her sultry voice and melodious delivery is ear candy. She consistently puts out quality music with visually pleasing video content. Kayla has a natural vocal sound that people work years to develop. Her talent as a singer is virtually unmatched in the Colorado market. Now residing in L.A. full-time, Kayla continues to work on a breakout single, an artist deserving of new fans and support.
JayDubb Tha Ruler – The Colorado Springs based artist is easily one of the hottest in the state. He just headlined his own show in Springs which had an incredible turnout and he continues to pop up on main stages across the state. His single “Off Brand” featuring Westside Boogie certainly reached DJs and audiences across the country. His latest single “Shake It Bae” is just starting to make rounds and as you can expect, it’s a strip club anthem.
Esi Juey – Esi Juey is one of the most electrifying, poignant and celebrated artist in Denver. If anyone can claim they went platinum in the hood, it’s Esi Juey, as his song “Bring Me The Chalupa” is one of the most viral songs to ever jump start the scene. Those who have seen it performed and DJs alike will attest to the fact, but Esi Juey is also one of the most prolific and memorable voices from the Box State. Just last year he went viral again with his remix of Lucy Pearl’s “You.” Capatilizing on the wave of country line dancing, this remix features a tutorial of how to do the Esi Juey version. Also in 2023 Juey dropped two full albums of unreleased material Slappy Davis Jr and Smell Like Onions. This year Lil Bad and Juey release a joint project titled Blue Diamonds. As a Eastside Denver resident, Juey has also felt his share of pain, as expressed in his song “Home Is Where The Heart Is,” a tribute to his slain brother Urocca and to all victims of gang violence.
