Jaiel’s “Take Care” is a love letter to letting go and a promise that you’re gonna bloom anyway.
Denver pop‑R&B artist Jaiel captures and transforms the ache of deep loss in her new single “Take Care,” out June 12 via Little Light Records. It’s the first taste of her forthcoming album, slated for Fall 2026, and it arrives like a slow, cleansing exhale after holding your breath a little too long.
The Colorado-based singer/songwriter wrote it in 2020 with her brother Adiel Mitchell, back when she was happily in a relationship and just “writing what sounded cool.” She ended up shelving the track and moved on to create her debut EP, The Magical World of Black Girlhood (2022). Then, when that same relationship began to unravel, she stumbled on the demo again. Oh, she realized. This is telling my story.
“It’s a love letter to the things I had to release and to the part of me that needed to learn that letting go doesn’t mean failing,” Jaiel explains. “It’s about accepting that a relationship no longer serves you, while still wishing the other person well.”
“Take Care” refuses to turn heartbreak into bitterness. The “you” in the lyrics becomes elastic, embodying a former lover, a former version of yourself, even a place or a dream you had to leave behind. The song invites us to say goodbye without saying good riddance.
Produced by Jaiel and Merch (AME Industries/Dreamspace Studios), the production matches the gentle hand in the lyrics with warm bass and guitar from David Musante, lush keys from Dominick Williams, and a soulful organ bed that builds into emotional relief. Jaiel’s layered, almost alien vocals acknowledge the doo‑wop harmonies of her earlier work and still bring a fresh take on her musical perspective. Mixed by Daniela Rivera (who’s worked with Rihanna and Justin Bieber) and mastered by Anna Frick (Billy Strings), the track is both intimate and expansive, using pop melodies that feel familiar while expressing the evolution of Jaiel’s sound.
Named by Westword as one of Denver’s R&B artists to watch, she’s also a history‑maker. Jaiel is the first Black woman to earn a music degree from Colorado College. She’s performed at GRAMMY Week’s SoundStage Festival, sold out Denver’s Dazzle, and has over 210,000 video views for her earlier single “Bet On Me.” “Take Care” feels like her most vulnerable offering yet.
“I want people to feel permission to let go, and to feel held in that process,” she says. “Because it’s a really tough process. But you have to let go in order to bloom.”
